The Local Auditor has directed my
attention to the fact that no provision for the audit of the
accounts of the Postal Agencies in China is included in his
approved programme of work for the present year and has
inquired whether it should be undertaken by him.
2.
In view of the temporary nature of
this Government's supervision of these Agencies and on the
supposition that either an Imperial or Local Audit of the
accounts will shortly be instituted, I have informed Mr.
Phelips that I do not consider it necessary for him to
undertake the examination.
3.
I take this opportunity of inquir-
-ing when this Government may expect to be relieved of its
